Service Description

Mel will be back in thhe studio for this 1 day workshop. I love tins. I love books. I love words. This little tin of words—a hand-stitched concertina book tucked inside a metal tin—was born on a day when I wasn’t feeling up to much. My bestie suggested, “Why don’t you make another one of your little books… but this time with paper?” I’d been journalling with different mediums and loving the process. Around the same time, Jane had created a beautiful book inspired by an Anne Brooke workshop. That sparked something for me. So I made my own version—completely different, full of doodles, words, and hand stitching. I did, however, use a paper jig. It’s brilliant and saves so much time compared with measuring every pattern yourself. Paper jigs are as old as paper itself—simple tools designed for consistency and precision in repetitive paper tasks, from religious art to early educational maps. Now you get to make your own little tin of words too. No need to bring a tin this will be supplied and included. ✨ What We’ll Be Making A hand-stitched, doodled, painted concertina book that fits inside a small tin. You can fill it with affirmations, poetry, quotes, doodles, tiny stitched patterns—anything meaningful to you. 🧰 What to Bring Basic sewing kit Small sharp embroidery scissors Pen, pencil, notebook, ruler A3 120gsm paper x 2 Acrylic paint pens Embroidery threads — Perle and stranded Paper die-cut shapes Bits of lace Nail art sequins (optional) Chenille needle size 22 Thin pokey tool for stitching holes 🪡 Materials & Kits I will bring all materials with me. Cancellation Policy

Cancellations & Refunds Bookings for the workshops are made months in advance, therefore it can be difficult for me to resell any places at short notice. Workshops require a great deal of planning, financial commitment, supplies and tools, as well as paying staff. As a result, cancellations can result in lost revenue. This will greatly impact on the business. Ideally, I don’t want either of us to be out of pocket. You can cancel your space on a workshop up to two weeks before it takes place. This two-week period allows me the necessary time to try and find someone to fill your place which I will endeavour to do through word of mouth and social media. If I can fill your space you will receive a full refund minus £10 admin fee, to deal with the process of issuing your refund and finding an alternative person to fill your space. However, please appreciate if I am unable to find someone to take your place, you will not receive a refund. I do understand that there are sometimes unavoidable situations so am happy to discuss any exceptional circumstances you may have. To cancel your place on a workshop, please provide me with a written notice via email; jane@fabricpaperscissors.co.uk. Unless I have acknowledged your request, you shouldn’t consider your request delivered! If I don’t respond within three working days, then please send a follow-up email or call me. Refunds will be made in the same way as the payment was made, ie. Payments paid by a credit card can only be refunded to the same card. Cancellations by Fabric Paper Scissors I am entitled to cancel any group or workshop at any time subject to the repayment of any deposit and fees received in respect of the booking which has been cancelled. In the unlikely event of a cancellation by myself or a guest tutor, I will provide a full refund within 5 days of the workshop date. My liability is only for the cost of the class. If the class is cancelled, you are liable for any costs incurred by you including materials purchased in advance, travel or accommodation.
