Service Description
Join us at our monthly patchwork and quilting workshop at Fabric Paper Scissors. We meet at 10am on the 2nd Thursday of each month. So, Thursday 11th September After spending several months honing our patchworks and quilting skills, we are now going to ramp it up a level. September, October November and January, (We break for December) workshops will be about making a patchwork and quilted jacket. So will be adding a "dressmaking" element to the class. Angela, our experienced tutor, will expertly guide you through the process. You’ll need your own sewing machine, basic sewing kit, fabrics, cutting mats, scissors etc Work Shop Plan September. We will plan and discuss the upcoming workshops. We will make a toile. A 'toile' (pronounced 'twahl') is basically a practice version of the garment you plan to sew. Toiles can also be referred to as muslins or mock-ups. Toiles are usually not neatly finished or hemmed like the actual garment would be, and they are made from cheap fabric. This will ensure that your final jacket fits correctly and will enable you to plan your patchwork design. October We will commence patchwork of your fabric. November Continuation of the patchwork with quilting. January We will assemble your jacket. Just in time to wear for Spring. You will need the following. Requirements Cheap washed cotton (can be an old duvet) for your toile. A Jacket Pattern of your choice. ETSY have a good selection and are trusted suppliers. Winslets off a jacket that is reversible, if you are up for a challenge. (Below you will see images of designs for inspiratation). Fabric for your jacket including lining. It MUST be washed prior to the workshop, matching threads. If you DONOT use a patchwork jacket pattern but an ordinary jacket pattern will need to allow MORE fabric than detailed. This is because more fabric is used in Patchwork. Wadding - Your choice but please consider the thickness of the finished garment. Comfort & Warmth. Tools. Cutting Mat Rulers Long & Square Rotary Cutter Scissors Sewing Machine, Power Lead, Foot Pedal & Instruction Manual Straight Stitch Foot 1/4" Patchwork Foot Walking / Quilting Foot Notebook You’ll need to bring your lunch, although tea coffee and cake will be supplied. If you would prefer to hold off purchasing fabric until after the September workshop advice can be given.

Cancellation Policy
Cancellations & Refunds Bookings for the workshops are made months in advance, therefore it can be difficult for me to resell any places at short notice. Workshops require a great deal of planning, financial commitment, supplies and tools, as well as paying staff. As a result, cancellations can result in lost revenue. This will greatly impact on the business. Ideally, I don’t want either of us to be out of pocket. You can cancel your space on a workshop up to two weeks before it takes place. This two-week period allows me the necessary time to try and find someone to fill your place which I will endeavour to do through word of mouth and social media. If I can fill your space you will receive a full refund minus £10 admin fee, to deal with the process of issuing your refund and finding an alternative person to fill your space. However, please appreciate if I am unable to find someone to take your place, you will not receive a refund. I do understand that there are sometimes unavoidable situations so am happy to discuss any exceptional circumstances you may have. To cancel your place on a workshop, please provide me with a written notice via email; jane@fabricpaperscissors.co.uk. Unless I have acknowledged your request, you shouldn’t consider your request delivered! If I don’t respond within three working days, then please send a follow-up email or call me. Refunds will be made in the same way as the payment was made, ie. Payments paid by a credit card can only be refunded to the same card. Cancellations by Fabric Paper Scissors I am entitled to cancel any group or workshop at any time subject to the repayment of any deposit and fees received in respect of the booking which has been cancelled. In the unlikely event of a cancellation by myself or a guest tutor, I will provide a full refund within 5 days of the workshop date. My liability is only for the cost of the class. If the class is cancelled, you are liable for any costs incurred by you including materials purchased in advance, travel or accommodation.
