Service Description

Faux Chenille Cushion Cover or Wall Panel Vendulka Battais is a textile artist, quilter, embroiderer & designer who started her creative journey making clothes with her mum in the Czech Republic. She learnt simple patchwork when she moved to the UK & was looking for a new hobby! It’s a story of creativity & of making opportunities & taking action. From squares & triangles, Vendulka’s work has evolved into quilting & embroidery, a love of circular patterns inspired by mandalas & dreamcatchers. Her love of teaching shines through. Vendulka will be your tutor for the day & will impart her modern take on quilting. At the Festival of Quilts in 2021, she won BEST IN SHOW! It's great to be able to welcome her to the studio. During this workshop, several layers of fabric are cut through to reveal the different layers & create a pattern on the fabric with stitches & scissors. If you like creativity & playing with fabric, this is the class for you! People usually associate Faux Chenille with just sewn & cut strips, but we take it just a couple of steps further & be a little more inventive. Beads & buttons are also a very important part of the process as it finishes off the piece by giving a bit of sparkle & even more texture. Requirements You will need 7-8 layers of fabric. Wall hanging I recommend fat quarter size, as this is not too big to achieve in a day & big enough to make an interesting wall hanging. As we will create a pattern of the hanging with the different fabrics exposed, you will mostly need plain-ish fabric or with a small pattern of colour on colour. Out of these 8 fabrics: one will be on the top and this one should be plainish fabric, you will also need two in a contrasting colour, we will be exposing some layers, which should bring an interesting effect. All the others can be similar in colour, they can have small patterns even, it will get lost in it. Just bring a selection and we can always decide which one to use on a day. If you’d like to make a cushion front, you will need 7-8, 14” fabric squares. Matching threads Pointy scissors, with a good sharp tip! Chenille cutter if you have one – not essential Fabric marker, which will be easy to see on the fabric you have chosen for the top Sewing machine + walking foot if you have one, foot pedal & manual Ruler Usual sewing kit with pins, needles etc. Refreshments will be served, but please remember your packed lunch.

Cancellation Policy

Cancellations & Refunds Bookings for the workshops are made months in advance, therefore it can be difficult for me to resell any places at short notice. Workshops require a great deal of planning, financial commitment, supplies and tools, as well as paying staff. As a result, cancellations can result in lost revenue. This will greatly impact on the business. Ideally, I don’t want either of us to be out of pocket. You can cancel your space on a workshop up to two weeks before it takes place. This two-week period allows me the necessary time to try and find someone to fill your place which I will endeavour to do through word of mouth and social media. If I can fill your space you will receive a full refund minus £5 admin fee, to deal with the process of issuing your refund and finding an alternative person to fill your space. However, please appreciate if I am unable to find someone to take your place, you will not receive a refund. I do understand that there are sometimes unavoidable situations so am happy to discuss any exceptional circumstances you may have. To cancel your place on a workshop, please provide me with a written notice via email; jane@fabricpaperscissors.co.uk. Unless I have acknowledged your request, you shouldn’t consider your request delivered! If I don’t respond within three working days, then please send a follow-up email or call me. Refunds will be made in the same way as the payment was made, ie. Payments paid by a credit card can only be refunded to the same card. Cancellations by Fabric Paper Scissors I am entitled to cancel any group or workshop at any time subject to the repayment of any deposit and fees received in respect of the booking which has been cancelled. In the unlikely event of a cancellation by myself or a guest tutor, I will provide a full refund within 5 days of the workshop date. My liability is only for the cost of the class. If the class is cancelled, you are liable for any costs incurred by you including materials purchased in advance, travel or accommodation.
